Phosphorus oxychloride (POCl₃) is a multifunctional chemical used as a semiconductor dopant and a precursor for light-conducting fibers. It plays a key role in producing pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyes, phosphates, and flame retardants. POCl₃ is also used in herbicide synthesis, plasticizers, sulfa drug chlorination, dye intermediates, organic chlorination catalysts, and uranium extraction.
